Lately, Grand Linux has been getting many inquiries about Claude licensing — for example: "We have 10 employees. Should we buy Claude Max ($200/month) per person, or get Claude Team Premium ($100/seat/month annual) instead?" This article compares both plans on features, token/usage value, real cost for a 10-person company, and — most importantly — the Data Governance gap most teams overlook.
TL;DR — Which plan fits whom?
- Claude Max $200 — A personal Anthropic account with 20x Pro usage. Best for freelancers, solo founders, power-user devs who work alone and need heavy Claude Code throughput.
- Claude Team Premium $100/seat (annual) — An organizational workspace bundling Claude app + Claude Code, with 5x Team Standard usage, admin console, audit logs, central billing, and no-training-on-data by default.
- 10 people each on Max 20x = $2,000/month or $24,000/year — and no organizational governance at all.
- 10 people on Team Premium (annual) = $1,000/month or $12,000/year before VAT (Thai customers add 7%) — with full governance.
- Quick answer: Team Premium wins for most companies on both cost and governance. Max only makes sense when a user genuinely needs the 20x quota.
Meet the Two Plans We're Comparing
Anthropic offers Free → Pro → Max → Team → Enterprise. This article focuses on the two plans we hear about most often — Max 20x ($200) on the personal side and Team Premium ($100/seat annual) on the organizational side. Both give users full access to Claude Code and the Claude app — but they target completely different personas.
Claude Max — Top-tier personal plan
- Max 5x — $100/month, 5x the usage of Pro ($20/month)
- Max 20x — $200/month, 20x the usage of Pro
- Runs on a personal account (personal or work email — Anthropic doesn't enforce)
- Includes Claude app (claude.ai), Claude Code (CLI agent), Projects, Artifacts, Connectors, Skills
- Access to Claude Opus / Sonnet / Haiku within the quota
Claude Team Premium — Organizational Premium Seat
- $100/seat/month (annual) = $1,200/seat/year (Thai customers add 7% VAT)
- $125/seat/month (monthly) — pay-as-you-go, no annual commitment
- Minimum 5 seats / maximum 150 seats per Team plan (larger orgs need Enterprise)
- 5x usage of a Standard seat — includes Claude Code
- Admin Console: add/remove seats, set per-user spend caps, view usage analytics, configure MCP, set tool permissioning
- Data Policy: Team/Enterprise content is not used to train Anthropic models by default
Side-by-Side — Max 20x vs Team Premium
| Aspect | Claude Max 20x ($200) | Team Premium ($100 annual) |
|---|---|---|
| Account type | Personal | Organization (Workspace) |
| Price/user/month | $200 | $100 (annual) / $125 (monthly) |
| Usage per user | 20x Pro | 5x Team Standard |
| Claude Code | ✓ | ✓ |
| Admin Console | ✗ None | ✓ Full |
| Audit Logs | ✗ | ✓ |
| Central Billing | ✗ (10 invoices) | ✓ (1 invoice) |
| SSO (SAML 2.0 / OIDC) | ✗ | ✓ Team includes SSO + Domain Capture (SCIM auto-provisioning is Enterprise-only) |
| Per-user spend cap | ✗ | ✓ |
| Offboarding (employee leaves) | Admin can't control | Deactivate seat immediately |
| Training on user data | Opt-in toggle (user controls) | Not used for training (default) |
Real Numbers — Annual Cost for a 10-Person Company
The chart most customers ask for — five options compared at 10 seats (pre-VAT):
| Option | Price/user/month | 10 users/month | 10 users/year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro personal x10 | $20 | $200 | $2,400 |
| Team Standard (annual) x10 | $20 | $200 | $2,400 |
| Max 5x personal x10 | $100 | $1,000 | $12,000 |
| Team Premium (annual) x10 | $100 | $1,000 | $12,000 |
| Max 20x personal x10 | $200 | $2,000 | $24,000 |
Key observation: At the $100/user/month price point, Team Premium equals Max 5x in dollars — but Team Premium also includes Admin Console, Audit, Central Billing, and No-Training-on-Data for free. Max 5x leaves you with 10 separate personal accounts and zero governance. Per dollar, Team Premium wins decisively at this tier.
Token / Usage — Who Gets More Per Person?
The honest question: does Max 20x ($200) give more usage per person than Team Premium ($100)? Short answer — yes, in theory. But the details matter.
Anthropic's usage tiers
Per the Anthropic Help Center (per-session):
- Pro = 1x baseline
- Max 5x = 5x Pro
- Max 20x = 20x Pro
- Team Standard seat = 1.25x Pro per session (one weekly limit across all models)
- Team Premium seat = 6.25x Pro per session (two weekly limits — one across all models, one for Sonnet only) ≈ 5x Standard
So on raw usage per person: Max 20x ($200) ≈ 3.2x the headroom of Team Premium ($100) per session. If you're a dev who runs Claude Code 8 hours a day with long agent runs, Max 20x hits its cap later.
But in practice, 10 people don't burn quota simultaneously
In a 10-person company, not everyone uses Claude heavily at the same time. A realistic distribution looks like:
- 2-3 (Dev / Senior Engineer / Product) lean on Claude Code hard
- 3-4 (Marketing / HR / Sales / Operations) use Claude app for a few hours a day
- 3-4 (Admin / Finance / Support) use it occasionally — summarizing docs, drafting emails
Team Premium's 5x quota per seat is usually enough for the majority. For the genuine heavy users, consider a hybrid (below).
Data Governance — The Real Decision-Maker
The thing Thai customers often skip when comparing prices — but for an IT Manager / CTO / DPO this matters most. Pair this with our AI Governance and Shadow AI pieces for the full picture; this section gives you the head-to-head view.
Risks of using Personal Max for company work
| Risk | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| 1. Shadow AI | Personal accounts — IT has no visibility into who uses what model, or what company data flows in. Textbook Shadow AI. |
| 2. Offboarding fails | Employee leaves; chat history, Projects, and uploaded files remain in their personal account. The company has no way to retrieve them. |
| 3. Reimbursement overhead | Employees pay personally — 10 people × 10 receipts. Finance chases everyone for USD invoices and VAT handling. |
| 4. No Audit Trail | If a data leak happens or someone prompts customer data into Claude — there's no evidence trail to investigate. |
| 5. PDPA exposure | Thailand's PDPA requires organizations to control "data processors." A personal account = no Data Processor Agreement between the company and Anthropic. |
| 6. Mixed usage | Employees use the same account for company work, personal projects, and side gigs — data boundaries blur and are hard to untangle. |
What Team Premium gives you on governance
- Admin Console: add / inactivate users, assign admin/owner/member roles
- Audit Logs: per-user activity visibility (subject to Anthropic Trust Center policies)
- Central Billing: one invoice from Anthropic for Finance (Thai customers add 7% VAT)
- No Training on Data: Team plan content is not used to train Anthropic models (default policy)
- Per-user Spend Cap: cap each user's Claude Code spend to prevent runaway cost
- Tool Permissioning + MCP Config: admin controls which MCP connectors (Google Drive, Slack, GitHub) the team can use
- Compliance: Anthropic holds SOC 2 Type II for Team/Enterprise
- Instant offboarding: deactivate seat → user loses access immediately; workspace history stays with the company
Data governance isn't a "nice-to-have" — it's the reason organizations should buy the org plan from day one, not after an incident forces a migration. By the time you migrate, 10 employees' chat histories, Projects, and uploaded files are scattered across 10 personal accounts — and you can't get them back.

When to Choose Max, When to Choose Team Premium
Pick Claude Max if...
- You're a freelancer / solo founder / individual contributor
- You use Claude Code heavily — long agent runs all day, Sonnet/Opus on production code
- You don't need to share Projects with teammates
- You aren't under company governance (e.g., you own a one-person business)
Pick Team Premium if...
- You have 5+ employees who need AI for work
- You want IT/HR to control AI tool access
- You care about PDPA / Data Protection / Compliance
- You want one invoice (Finance doesn't want to chase 10 separate receipts)
- You want to share Projects and Prompts across the team
- You plan to make Claude a permanent tool, not just an experiment
Hybrid Approach — Recommended for 10 People
For a 10-person team, here are three patterns worth considering:
Pattern A: All 10 seats on Team Premium
- Cost: $1,000/month × 12 = $12,000/year (pre-VAT)
- Everyone covered, governance complete, one invoice, Claude Code on every seat
- Best if the team is tech-heavy and everyone uses Claude Code, or AI usage is moderate-to-heavy across the board
Pattern B: Mix Standard + Premium in the same Team plan (most cost-effective)
- 3 devs/seniors on Premium = $100 × 3 = $300/month
- 7 (Marketing/HR/Sales/Finance) on Standard = $20 × 7 = $140/month
- Total: $440/month × 12 = $5,280/year (pre-VAT)
- Best if the team clearly splits between power users (Claude Code) and casual users (chat only)
- Admins can shift Standard ↔ Premium any time in Settings → Members based on actual usage
Pattern C: Team Premium 10 + personal Max for 1-2 power users
- Team Premium 10 seats = $1,000/month
- + Personal Max 20x for 2 people (CTO/Lead dev) = $400/month (company-funded)
- Total: $1,400/month × 12 = $16,800/year
- Best if 1-2 people genuinely exceed Team Premium's 5x quota
- Caveat: personal Max remains "Shadow AI" from an audit perspective — set a policy that company work stays in the org workspace only
Saeree ERP's recommendation: for a typical 10-person company, start with Pattern B (Mix Standard + Premium) for 2-3 months, watch usage analytics in the Admin Console, then upgrade Standard → Premium based on real consumption — no guessing, no waste.
Saeree ERP's Take — Same Governance Principles
From an ERP vendor's perspective, we strongly agree with systematic governance — Saeree ERP itself is designed so administrators can manage user access end-to-end:
- Admins can add users, inactivate users who leave, and set valid from-to dates on temporary access (auditors, consultants)
- Configure role-based access per module — who sees accounting, who sees inventory, who approves documents
- 2FA + audit logs on every transaction
- Supports SSO with corporate identity systems
"Using a personal account for company work" creates governance problems whether the tool is Claude AI or ERP. The fix is the same — invest in the org plan from day one, not after an incident.
The Final Answer — What Should a 10-Person Company Buy?
- Short answer: Team Premium 10 seats (annual) — $12,000/year — full governance, half the cost of Max 20x
- Cost-optimized: Mix Standard 7 + Premium 3 in the same Team plan — $5,280/year
- For power users: Team Premium 10 + personal Max for 1-2 people — $16,800/year
- Everyone on personal Max 20x: $24,000/year with no governance — not recommended for serious business use
