On 9 July 2026, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Work alongside the global rollout of the GPT-5.6 model. Outlets from Bloomberg to Forbes framed it the same way: an "agent" built to finish work, not merely to chat.
Its core capability is the long-running task. Instead of answering one question at a time, ChatGPT Work takes a big brief, decomposes it into dozens of smaller steps, and works through them autonomously for hours — without the user having to babysit it. Along the way it pulls context across the apps, files and workflows you've connected, then assembles usable deliverables: Word documents, spreadsheets, presentation decks, reports, even small web apps.
In the bigger picture, this is the step beyond the ChatGPT Enterprise era of "answer assistant in the org" toward a "digital worker" that takes a job and runs it to completion.

The short answer: almost the same concept — nearly every outlet framed ChatGPT Work as OpenAI's "response" to Claude Cowork, which Anthropic shipped a few months earlier. Both are AI agents focused on "shipping finished work," running long, and connecting to real work tools. The differences are in ecosystem and underlying model, not in the concept itself:

Which Plans Get It
ChatGPT Work rolls out to paid plans, excluding Free and Go. The rollout order:

Security warning: the more an AI agent can do on its own, the higher the risk. An agent with a built-in browser and computer control can be tricked by prompt injection hidden in a web page or document it reads, causing it to act wrongly or leak data. AI Agents and Your ERP — How to Think About It
ChatGPT Work is good at "producing deliverables" — writing reports, building slides, summarising data, drafting documents. That genuinely saves teams time. But there's a critical line organisations must understand:
The principle: an AI agent is a work producer; your ERP is the source of truth. Accounting figures, inventory, purchase orders and any records that must be auditable belong in a system with access control, an audit trail, and ownership you keep — not inside an agent's cloud conversation.
In practice, the safest pattern is to let the AI agent handle the periphery (drafting reports, summarising meetings, preparing decks) while the "real" data keeps flowing through an ERP with proper internal controls — for example Saeree ERP, deployable both on-premise and in the cloud, with 2FA and fine-grained user permissions.
